What is Transpersonal Psychotherapy? What Makes this Approach to Counseling Different?
Transpersonal Psychotherapy is an approach to healing oneself that encompasses the mind, body and spirit on the road to overcoming the blocks to living life to the fullest. In this way, traditional psychology is enhanced by the belief that in order for positive change to occur for the client, it must also occur for the therapist on some level, by and through the bonds of relationship. Your process doesn't happen in a bubble, separate from my own. What is more, only together do we find answers to the difficult questions, by carefully following the process of our work together and inherently trusting that process.
A significant focus in our work together uncovers and explores certain themes that run through our lives, called archetypes. Archetypes are visual symbols or energetic imprints that exist in our psyches. Some are readily understood while others bring subliminal messages that are there to help trigger your memory about specific life events or issues, much like our dreams. Archetypes can often convey messages that verbal and written information cannot. Archetypes are found everywhere, as their symbols are a language of the mind and spirit, taken to different frequencies of thought and connected to one another by the collective unconscious. A person may become aware of these special symbols through counseling, meditation, dreamtime, doodling on a pad of paper, landscapes or other art forms, jewelry, hieroglyphs, a logo on a billboard...anywhere at all! Archetypes can also be auditory: a tone, a series of notes, a harmony in your favorite song, etc. Our counseling sessions are uniquely designed to raise your awareness of the archetypes at work in your specific life situation. Often, the reality we know and live within is a series of metaphors, thoughts and patterns set into motion by the synchronicity of archetypes we experience. Therefore, our work together at Creative Counseling is a process of exploring your unique network of archetypes in order to determine which themes serve you and which themes need some adjustments! www.aamindell.net |
